Evo

The Unexpected Teacher

Evo was not my dog, but he became an important chapter in my journey as a trainer. A high-drive male Belgian Malinois, he came to me when a friend left for the military and needed someone to take him in. I stepped in to help—offering Evo a temporary home, structured training, and a fresh start.

Though he was only a foster and training project, Evo pushed me in all the right ways. He challenged me to be more clear, more consistent, and more intentional in everything I did. Helping Evo find a state of calm and confidence in everyday life made me a better trainer—not just for working dogs like him who are constantly “on”, but for every dog I’ve worked with since.

My time with Evo reminded me that even temporary dogs can leave permanent lessons. He’s since moved on to his forever home, but the things I learned from our time together continue to shape the way I train today.
